"If we're not reading the scriptures daily, our testimonies are growing thinner, our spirituality isn't increasing in depth.  We, ourselves, must be studying the scriptures and have a daily habit."  -President Harold B. Lee

I hope you're all enjoying your reading.  I know it's hard, I have definitely felt Satan's influence trying to distract me right when I sit down to read.  But I refuse to let him win, so I push through and always feel relaxed just a few verses in.  Really, the ultimate goal isn't to finish the Book of Mormon quickly....the goal is to renew our love and committment to the scriptures in our lives and never go back to letting our scripture reading fall to the bottom of our daily priority lists.

I am amazed at the blessings that have already come with this reading challenge. Without getting too personal, we have been thrown into a family emergency, and because I have been reading so much I was able to recall scriptures which instanly kept me more calm. I am so thankful for this reading challenge- it has made me study more than I have in years... and I really feel like I am STUDYING rather than just simply reading. Thank you so much.

Mellissa, I think it is great that you are actually making the time to STUDY 10 pages a day. I decided that in order to make the 10 pgs a day I would just have to READ(pretty much speed read at this point, to catch up), not so much study, but I love how the stories come together when reading more than a chapter at a time. I think sometimes that the thought of "needing to study" hinders my action of reading because I will get caught up in one verse or think I don't have time to "study" so I will not read at all.

In my reading today I came across a passage which gave me a bit of an epiphany. I am sure it is something I have realized before, but this time it seemed to hit me more forcefully. It made me wonder if I am being prepared for something yet to come...
(Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 17:50)

"And I said unto them: If God had commanded me to do all things I could do them. If he should command me that I should say unto this water, be thou earth, it should be earth; and if I should say it, it would be done."

The thing that hit me was how miracles often take action on our part. Nephi said, "IF I should SAY it, it would be done." In other words, if he didn't say it, it would not happen.
Naaman had to go and wash 7 times.
The children of Israel had to look to the serpent.
Moses had to stretch forth his hand to part the Red Sea.

Of course, the Lord could just DO it for them, but he requires actions on their/our part.

Sometimes we are asked to do simple things...things that seem too simple to work. If we don't do them, we will not receive the miracle. If we do them, we will see miracles happen.

I am on page 54...just started 2Nephi, so I am still a little behind, but since I started 3 days late (and I think I only got a couple verses in on another day, making me 4 days behind), only being 2 1/2 days behind isn't too bad. lol I'm wondering how many days it will take to catch up!

Becca, thanks for starting this!

Thank you for your comments! I am loving how the stories come together as well. I always had the story so broken up in my head by chapter, so it's been really amazing to see the Book of Mormon as more of a big picture. It holds a different kind of power.
